by Ivan Pavliuchenko on Jul 01, 2021

Posthuman Island is a set of virtual exhibitions, combining 20 visual artworks by artists from the USA, England, South Korea, Ukraine, and Germany.

VIRTUAL EXHIBITION & SPECULATIVE FUTURE By Cultural Policy X Feltzine

Posthuman Island is virtual shows the futuristic world of five transformed humans in 2060. The project speculates about the evolution of human biology and psychology under the influence of AI. Each posthuman has a detailed bio and a diary documenting their time spent in isolated rooms with unlimited access to outside information.

This research collaborates with artists from the US, Germany, England, South Korea, and Ukraine, including artworks by non-binary & BIPOC artists. The creatures presented are fusions of their creators, whose artworks dig into tech and cultural investigations on psychology and biopolitics.

STORY

Nearly six decades ago, in 2001, a group of tech elites (known as “Dr. Trust”) founded NeuBi Solutions and set up “Posthuman Island”– a research center underneath an island in the Philippines. In 2037, a group of human volunteers isolated themselves (with one-way online access), and repeatedly mutated using beta quantum evolution technology. Twenty-three years later, a posthuman anthropologist reveals the physiological, psychological, and technological development in these beings and uncovers the reason why they must be protected.

SHOW

The show comprises 20 visual artworks (video, still images, gifs), five original audio compositions, and an accompanying narrative story that weaves it all together.

Posthuman Island was produced by AREYES @areyes.studio, in collaboration with Cultural Policy @culturalpolicy. Presented in partnership with @grayarea and @feltzine. Soundscape is generated by Mubert.
